Here we have a couple of photos of Willy Simmons' latest flute.
As with all his flutes it has been entirely hand-made in his workshop, which we recently visited. Each flute features new developments, since Willy is constantly looking to improve towards the ultimate expression of his craft.
Why hand-make every part of a flute, from tone-holes to keys to headjoint, I hear you ask? The answer is, to remove all the compromises in mechanics, intonation, and feel that companies which mass-produce have to make in order to bring their product in on budget.
There are no compromises here, only the best that one of the last remaining flutemakers in the old tradition can achieve.
