Rudall Carte alto flute
> silver throughout
> closed G sharp
> Rockstro G sharp
> A=440
> excellent condition
This silver alto was made by Rudall Carte at the height of its powers in 1927. Complete and original, it is a rare and beautiful flute in excellent condition.
The flute was made by Leonard Hinde, the son of a famous Carte flutemaker who himself became foreman - the last before Berners Street closed. In its day this was very expensive flute at £77/15/-, more than twice the cost of a comparable concert flute. The workmanship is superb and the flute plays with a wonderfully warm sound. It was made to play at A=440, and intonation is excellent. Padding is good and the mechanism is excellent. The Rockstro F sharp is original.
Solid silver alto flutes from the golden age of Carte flutemaking are rare. This example flute comes in its original case.
