Rudall Carte piccolo

> cocuswood with silver keywork

> modern pitch A=440

> open G sharp

> thinned silver-lined headjoint

> very good condition

This unusual piccolo was made, we believe, just after the closure of the Berners Street workshop in 1958. The style of the keywork suggests that it is the product of Roger (Angus) Harris, one the very finest of all the Carte flutemakers. He continued to work for Rudall Carte during 1959 and some way into 1960, and we believe this piccolo must date from that period.

The mechanism is of the highest standard. The shape of the Y-arms, the lovely G# and thumb touchpieces, and the general consistent neatness are all noteworthy and indicative. Condition is excellent, with the keys all crisp and appearing to have had very little use.

The cocuswood is of a particularly lovely colour and grain. There are no cracks. The thinned headjoint with integral carved lip-plate gives a warm full sound.

The piccolo is in playing order. It has not been through our workshop and is sold as seen. Pads are old but still serviceable. With a clean up this piccolo will look wonderful.
