The Academy Flute is based on an original flute made by C. Palanca and, like the original, it is responsive and sonorous. Palanca-style flutes are popular with professional players and this model makes such qualities available to students and beginners.

This flute is made of boxwood which, due to its high density and resistance to chipping, has been used to make wind instruments such as recorders and flutes for centuries. The colour of boxwood is a light cream to yellow which tends to darken slightly with prolonged exposure to light. It is an ideal wood for turning and produces a beautiful finish.

Chris Raven's flutes are known for their keen response and excellent intonation. The Palanca-style oval embouchure gives complete control of colour while allowing a wide range of dynamics. Highly recommended. Comes in a cloth case with spare oil and full care instructions.
